the aesthetic and functional uses of that space. Put differently it refers to

IMPORTANCE OF SOFT FURNISHING
Soft furnishings are the glue that binds all the elements of an interior together,
creating a complete and cohesive look. They include fabric-based “soft”
decorative pieces such as curtains, cushions, carpets, upholstery, and more. Soft
furnishing items set a regularly furnished house and a properly designed interior
apart. The use of heavy soft furnishings such as window valance and heavy drapes
has faded away for more minimalist looks nowadays. However, soft furnishings
are often what makes a house a home.
1. They bring comfort, softness, and joy to a room, making it feel like a
livable space rather than a rigidly decorated space that is not meant to be
touched or lived in.
2. Using just the right number of soft furnishings can be tricky since one can
easily overdo it and make the space feel busy and cluttered. Here are a few
types of soft furnishings, their importance, and how to do them right in
your next interior design project.
3. Soft furnishings turn the neutral spaces into personal and very special
places.
4. Fabric is the prime contributor in soft furnishing products and thus it must
provide the texture, color, character, scale and anything that is missing in
the architecture.
5. Soft furnishings have many roles to play, it brings style, reflects one’s taste
and controls the mood. Moreover, it is the most flexible and can be easily
changed, replaced or added to.
6. They increase livability and workability of a small place, reduce noises,
make music and even speech richer and more resonant.
7. For getting all the advantages of fabric used for soft furnishing, it must
have properties such as light fastness, resistance to staining, pilling and
snagging, flame retardancy etc.
8. Soft furnishings are an important element of interior style, being both
practical and decorative.
9. They add the last details in comfort and style.
10.Adds character and charm – cushions, rugs and curtains add characterful
accents to a room, allowing home owners to play with personal touches.
11.Gives textural contrast – like all art, interior design is about texture and
contrasting those textures in order to add depth and interest to a space. In a
hard wooden floor, a set of delicate curtains will soften up the room
perfectly.
12.Soft Furnishings add comfort and warmth – soft furnishings don’t just offer
aesthetic benefits to a home; they offer practical ones too. E.g.: Rugs are
soft underfoot providing comfort and warmth to a cold and hard floor.
Curtains are particularly instrumental in improving the comfort of a room,
they insulate and block out light when necessary.
13. They provide excellent acoustics – another functional advantage of adding
plenty of curtains, cushions, throws and rugs to home is to regulate the
acoustics. All of these soft furnishing pieces will contribute to noise
reduction and make the sound within the room less echoey and tiny.
14.Adds excellent privacy – the practical benefit of soft furnishings, curtains in particular is the privacy that they offer. In bedrooms and bathrooms, this is vital and with modern house designs incorporating more glass and larger
windows, curtains and blinds are providing to be an essential feature
throughout the contemporary home.
Soft furnishing not only enhances the quality of rooms and furniture but it also
adds value to them and make living an experience that will love to have with,
these items add to the quality of lifestyle by providing an ambience that will
make house a home to live in.
